A bone breaks every 3.4 minutes in Australia

‘Fracturing’ and ‘breaking’ a bone are actually the same thing

WHAT CAUSES

Bone Fractures?

A fracture occurs when any part of your bone is broken. It can range from a thin crack (hairline) to a complete break. Bones can fracture in many ways: crosswise, lengthwise, in several places or into many pieces. Most fractures happen when a bone is impacted by more force or pressure than it can sustain – often during sport.

Seek medical assistance immediately for a broken bone from a major incident.

HOW TO TREAT

Bone Fractures

Bone breaks and fractures involve varying degrees of damage to the bone and can only be properly diagnosed via X-ray. Immobilising the injured area with a splint and keeping the person still until help arrives are crucial. Apply an ice pack to limit swelling and reduce pain, if possible.

Watch the video to learn how to apply a splint.
